West Hendon Nursery follow the guidelines set out by the ‘Food Standard Agency’ in Safer Food Better Business. All staff on site have a food and hygiene certificate and all of our meals are prepared fresh on the day with quality ingredients. We are also working towards the Healthy Early Years London Award. All our menus are checked by a nutritionist to ensure we are providing the children at our setting a healthy and balanced diet. We try to introduce children to a variety of food including ones from different cultures.
Our children often help to prepare their tea time meal and some puddings, we use cooking and baking as a valuable tool for learning in our activities. Every meal time is an opportunity to explore health benefits from our food, to discuss the nutrients, vitamins and minerals present in our meal and what they can do for our bodies. As well as the importance of not eating lots of sugar or unhealthy foods which we continue to promote throughout the nursery not just meal times. It is also an opportunity to promote independence and help children make better food choices in their future. Meal times are a celebrated as a chance for us to all to come together, practice our etiquette, have interesting discussion and spend quality time in each other’s company.
Children are given the opportunity and encouraged to practice serving their own portion of food and pour their own water throughout the day. Adequate cutlery, children’s knives, forks and cups are always used where age appropriate to help young hands coordinate and develop those all-important fine motor skills.
At aplomb we cater for all your children’s needs by serving alternative options when necessary for vegetarians, vegans, Halal only and any children with intolerances or allergies.

With a total of 10 years’ experience in childcare Elena began her career in Early Years as a nursery practitioner at Aplomb Day Nursery & Preschool in Palmers Green. After building up a wealth of knowledge and experience, she then became a childminder in her own home. This enabled her to understand first-hand the integral role and value of an experienced practitioner in supporting a child’s play and learning. She considers the environment as a vital tool in a childcare setting, suggesting it needs to be rich and enabling, with passionately presented resources from a child’s-eye view. This will in turn promote curiosity, exploration, and learning.
Being a mother of 2 young children provides her with the knowledge and experience as both a teacher and a mother.
With a total of 10 years’ experience in childcare Georgina began her career in Early Years as a nursery practitioner at Aplomb Day Nursery & Preschool in Palmers Green. After building up a wealth of knowledge and experience, she then became a co-childminder with Elena in a home setting.
Over the years, she has perfected her approach through working closely with children on a daily basis and respecting them as individuals with unique interests that contribute to their development across all areas.
Georgina’s approach is centred around the children and their interests. She has a passion for nutrition and healthy eating, believing that it is the forefront of a healthy, happy child who is ready to learn through play.
Mary began her childcare career as a childminder and mother before opening the first Aplomb Day Nursery & Preschool, located in Palmers Green in 2007. Having over 30 years’ experience in childcare, Mary has dedicated her entire career and life to providing homely, educational childcare settings for children. She has worked hard to perfect her approach of providing them with the best possible nurture in their early years and creating a solid foundation of development for them to be able to move on to their next adventure. Mary’s passion for childcare has been passed on to her daughters, Elena and Georgina, and has in turn created a strong team of passionate childcare professionals who are determined to provide settings that are enabling, homely, educational and attentive like no other.
