Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Here are some of the questions parents often ask before joining Aplomb Day Nursery.

At Aplomb Day Nursery, we welcome babies from 3 months up to 5 years old. Whether you’re looking for a safe space for your little one while you return to work, or a nurturing preschool program before school starts, we’ve got you covered.

We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) and believe children learn best through play. Our caring team plans fun, age-appropriate activities that build skills in language, social confidence, physical development, and problem-solving. From messy play and music to outdoor adventures and early mark-making, every day is full of opportunities to learn in a natural and enjoyable way.

Every child is given a Key Person. A dedicated member of staff who gets to know them really well. They’ll be your child’s main point of care, making sure they feel safe, settled, and supported, while also keeping you updated on their progress and milestones.

Yes! At Aplomb Day Nursery, outdoor play is part of our daily routine because we believe fresh air and exploration are key to healthy development. Children enjoy outdoor learning and play every day whether it’s sunny or raining, in our safe, well-equipped garden areas. We simply ask parents to send in weather-appropriate clothing so your little one can make the most of their time outside.

For everyone’s safety, we do follow exclusion periods if your child is poorly or recovering from a vaccination. These vary depending on the illness (from 24 hours up to a couple of weeks). Our managers will guide you on this, and we follow UK Health Security Agency advice to keep all children safe.

A nursery cares for children from babies through to age 5, offering a mix of play, care, and learning. Preschool, usually for ages 3–5, focuses more on school readiness introducing early skills like phonics, numbers, and independence. At Aplomb, we offer both within our settings, so your child gets a smooth, confident transition into school.

The government is expanding free childcare. Currently:
- 15 hours free: from age 2 (for eligible families)
- From Sept 2024: 15 free hours from 9 months old
- 30 hours free: for eligible working parents from 9 months+ (from Sept 2025)
We’ll happily guide you through the process so you don’t miss out.

Your child’s safety is our top priority. When you register, we’ll ask about any allergies or dietary needs. A care plan will be put in place, and we use a clear plate-colour system so staff know exactly what each child can and can’t eat. Our kitchen and playrooms also keep allergy lists visible at all times.

Day nurseries like Aplomb provide structure, routine, and a rich learning environment. Children mix with a wide group of peers, helping them build friendships and social skills. They also benefit from carefully planned activities and resources designed to spark curiosity. For parents, it means peace of mind knowing your child is safe, happy, and developing every day.

Yes! These are two separate schemes, but they work perfectly side by side. Tax-Free Childcare helps cover 20% of your childcare fees, while 30 Hours Funded Childcare gives you set free hours each week. Using both can make a big difference to your monthly costs and we’re always happy to help you apply.
