We follow the guidelines set out by the ‘Food Standard Agency’ in Safer Food Better Business. All staff on site have a food and hygiene certificate and all of our meals are prepared fresh on the day with quality ingredients. We are also working towards the Healthy Early Years London Award. All our menus are checked by a nutritionist to ensure we are providing the children at our setting a healthy and balanced diet. We try to introduce children to a variety of food including ones from different cultures.
Our children often help to prepare their tea time meal and some puddings, we use cooking and baking as a valuable tool for learning in our activities. Every meal time is an opportunity to explore health benefits from our food, to discuss the nutrients, vitamins and minerals present in our meal and what they can do for our bodies. As well as the importance of not eating lots of sugar or unhealthy foods which we continue to promote throughout the nursery not just meal times. It is also an opportunity to promote independence and help children make better food choices in their future. Meal times are a celebrated as a chance for us to all to come together, practice our etiquette, have interesting discussion and spend quality time in each other’s company.
Children are given the opportunity and encouraged to practice serving their own portion of food and pour their own water throughout the day. Adequate cutlery, children’s knives, forks and cups are always used where age appropriate to help young hands coordinate and develop those all-important fine motor skills.
At aplomb we cater for all your children’s needs by serving alternative options when necessary for vegetarians, vegans, Halal only and any children with intolerances or allergies.
Here at Aplomb Day Nursery and Preschool, we are passionate about supporting newcomers to the sector and are proud to offer apprenticeships and student placements.

With a total of 10 years’ experience in childcare Elena began her career in Early Years as a nursery practitioner at Aplomb Day Nursery & Preschool in Palmers Green. After building up a wealth of knowledge and experience, she then became a childminder in her own home. This enabled her to understand first-hand the integral role and value of an experienced practitioner in supporting a child’s play and learning. She considers the environment as a vital tool in a childcare setting, suggesting it needs to be rich and enabling, with passionately presented resources from a child’s-eye view. This will in turn promote curiosity, exploration, and learning.
Being a mother of 2 young children provides her with the knowledge and experience as both a teacher and a mother.
